I'm telling a taping story in a "hippie-essay" format. I've lumped together the evolution of tape deck servoes to try and make this technical stuff easy for people to understand. I do not have the information details. This is not about that. For example, VPR-2, VPR-3, and VPR-5 Ampex model video tape decks had very advanced servoes, dating all the way back to the late 1970s. I worked on plenty of these tape decks. My work with Ampex dates back to the days when I was employed in Ampex's AVSD factory as a technician. I also worked in NYC (Allendale, NJ) as an Ampex field engineer... thirty years ago.
